Roadkill
Can you hear him?
he’s coming closer
no longer hiding
from warm embraces
fearing I’ll get burnt
It’s the anger in me
I’m a man, after all
I hang in the balance
Of love
and rapture
It’s the beginning
Which always ends faster
The end is always dragged out
like a dead bride’s veil
walking behind her like a specter
she no longer hides
her rotten face
she is beautiful
to me
The end is always dragged out
like the cut spanning from my thigh
to your knee
we are blood brothers
but now we’re siphoning
our lives away from each other
like a secret
I keep between my teeth
like a dead deer
crushed out on the highway
I too wait for god
In the places where he’ll never look
I put these rat traps in my apartment
seeing if people will notice
I get stuck
in what I said and what I meant
what I said and what I want
I reek of blood and liquified lament
I stand between you and your chance to live
Drag my body across the highway
wait for someone to take me away
or run me over
Maybe a car will be a warmer embrace
maybe a car will be a warmer embrace
maybe a body bag will be a warmer embrace
maybe cutting me open will be a warmer embrace
So hide me by the highway
sit me there
Don’t go you’ll tell me
but I’m a bad dog
and scared animals
run off into streets.
